Hi, my name's Matt Ravenscroft
And plants are my religion. If religion was delicious, nourishing, beautiful, and a lot of fun on a grill. You might know me from my restaurant, Gia, where I play head chef — serving up vibrant, feel-good eats that are primarily plant-based. I’ve been cooking, and cooking plants for over a decade, at places like Parts & Labour, The Drake, and Rosalinda where I learned my craft from some of the most talented humans in the world.
Oh, and people call me the Dirty Raven. Probably because that’s always been my Instagram handle.
Plants are the future. Because of the environment, because of health, because of ethics, because of cost, and because they are insanely delicious if you know some basics about cooking them. You don’t need any fancy tools or difficult techniques. The problem is that most people are still pretty intimidated by them. Changing that is my mission.
I'm currently the Culinary Director and Executive Chef at Gia. Recently voted one of Toronto's best new restaurants, Gia is a plant-focused restaurant inspired by the seasons and the joys of Italian cooking. Focusing in on local produce, and celebrating all it has to offer, the goal of Gia is to create a beautiful, remarkable dining experience – that just happens to be plant-based. Pasta is the love language and focus of all that we do, while holding all the seasons offer us on a pedestal to be savoured and enjoyed.
